Chapter 3 · Lesson 4 of 4
The 3-Part Prompt Formula: Instruction, Context, Format
Putting It Together
A solid everyday prompt has three parts: an instruction (what to do), context (what the model needs to know), and an output format (what the answer should look like).
Example: "Explain what a context window is (instruction) to a high school student who has never used AI (context). Use two short paragraphs and one everyday analogy (format)."
You will not always need all three, but checking for them is a quick way to improve any prompt.
