Role Prompting: How 'You Are a…' Changes AI Answers
Pick a Role
You can ask a model to answer from a certain point of view: "You are a patient math tutor" or "Act as a careful copy editor." This is called role prompting.
A role nudges the vocabulary, tone, and focus of the answer. A tutor explains step by step; an editor hunts for errors.
Roles do not give the model new knowledge. They help it choose which of its existing patterns to lean on.
