Chapter 5 · Lesson 2 of 3

Vague Prompts: Why AI Gives Bad Answers

Vague Prompts

A vague prompt forces the model to guess what you meant, and its guess may not match yours. "Make this better" could mean shorter, more formal, more persuasive, or simply fixing typos.

When an answer disappoints, first ask: did I actually say what I wanted? Most weak results come from missing instructions or context, not from a weak model.

Replace fuzzy words like "better" or "good" with the specific change you want.

Quick check

Which rewrite fixes the vague prompt "Make this better"?

  • A Make this way better
  • B Improve this, please
  • C Fix grammar and cut this to 100 words, keeping the main point
  • D Better!!!

Answer it in the game to earn +10 XP.
